Manchester United’s legendary defender Gary Neville has stated that Anthony Martial being handed a start will be unfair to Marcus Rashford.
Antony Martial has come off the bench against West Ham United and Swansea City so far this season to find the back of the net on both occasions and given his fine cameo performances, there have been calls for the French international to be handed a start.
During the first two matches of the campaign, manager Jose Mourinho has handed Marcus Rashford a start on the left wing and if Martial is to be given a chance, the England international will in all likelihood have to be dropped to the bench.
As a result, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville does not think Martial should be handed the nod ahead of Rashford, who has also been impressive but has failed to score, and believes that the status quo in terms of the starting lineup should be kept for the upcoming weeks.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said, “Martial has been devastating when coming off the bench but there’s no doubt he’s coming on against teams that are tired.
“He’s a brilliant finisher, his composure is brilliant. It’d be unfair for him to come in [at the] expense of Rashford. If you look at his work, his dribbles, his sprints.”
