Manchester United in three-way battle to land 19-year-old wonderkid: report

Christian Pulisic

Manchester United are reportedly battling Liverpool and Bayern Munich for the signature of Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Bundesliga giants from Pennsylvania Classics in 2015, has been tipped for greatness and finds a host of clubs keen on a summer deal, reports The Sun.

Sport Bild say Bayern Munich are the latest side to lodge an interest in the US international boasting nine goals in 20 appearances for his country. Pulisic, who is contracted with Dortmund until 2020, has scored and created five goals in 17 Bundesliga games this season.

Liverpool’s interest comes from manager Jurgen Klopp, previously in charge of Borussia Dortmund, whose relationship with the German club could boost his chances of landing the wonderkid. Manchester United remain in the race, however, and have the resources to meet any asking price.

Manager Jose Mourinho may have opted for short-termism by signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window, but United’s squad is full of younger attacking talent – Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku. Pulisic could be a good fit.

It’s unlikely his long-term future will be decided any time soon, however, given all the clubs interested in his signature. Dortmund have him for another two years, but it’s unknown if he’s looking to sign a new contract.

Bayern have been signing the best young talents in the country for some time now, so United might have a task beating them to Pulisic’s signature if BVB green-lighted a move.
