Manchester United have reportedly ended their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose for the summer. The Red Devils have decided against making an offer for the England international after knowing of Spurs’ reluctance to sell their defender.
Rose emerged as a potential transfer target for United last week after he hinted in an explosive interview that he could leave Spurs for a bigger challenge up north. Since then, there have been suggestions that United could lodge a transfer attempt for the 27-year-old, who is disappointed with the wages on offer at his current club.
According to The Star, United will not be moving for the left-back in the current transfer window as they do not want to be indulged in a wild goose chase with no benefit. Jose Mourinho had tried his luck to sign Spurs’ Eric Dier earlier this summer, and the result was quite similar with the north London club showing no desire to sell.
Manchester United have since recruited Nemanja Matic from Chelsea to bolster their midfield ranks and the Serbian’s stellar league debut against West Ham United suggests that he could turn out to be a key performer in the club’s pursuit of the English crown.
