Manchester United are reportedly planning to trigger the one-year extension in Anthony Martial’s contract with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward having no plans of offloading the Frenchman this summer.
Earlier last month, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley suggested that the attacker could make way from the club after his reduced gametime during the backend of last season but so far, there has not been an approach from any of his suitors.
As such, the Frenchman has joined with his teammates for the pre-season tour of the United States and The Manchester Evening News claims that the attacker should stay put for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Martial’s was unquestionably United’s most-promising performer during the first half of the previous campaign but the mid-season arrival of Alexis Sanchez genuinely hampered his progress after he was forced to play on the right side of the attack.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman has the opportunity to overcome his struggles during the current pre-season and based on Mourinho’s comments, the 22-year-old could start upfront in the Premier League opener with Romelu Lukaku expected to report late after his World Cup exploits.
The £65,000-a-week star netted 11 goals in 45 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions last term. None of those, however, came between February and May, where he was restricted of regular playing time. His present contract expires in the summer of 2019.
