Ander Herrera has indicated his desire to fight for his Manchester United future despite the recent signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Spain international was voted as the club’s Player of the Year during Jose Mourinho’s maiden season at the club but he could only amass 14 starts last term with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba dominating the proceedings in midfield.
Since then, United have bolstered their midfield ranks further with the signing of Fred but this has not dampened Herrera’s ambition to stay put for the 2018/19 campaign.
“I am happy in the club. I love the fans. I am playing for the best team in the UK so my first intention is to stay in the club because I love what I do and I love where I am,” he said.
Herrera has been regularly linked with a possible return to Athletic Bilbao but his recent comments indicate that he is prepared to stick with United for the final year of his contract.
Despite this, Herrera may have to cope with restricted gametime, especially in the Premier League but he appears content nevertheless after having slowly grown into a fan favourite.
Herrera was involved during United’s recent pre-season game against Club America and he is probably a strong contender to start in the Premier League opener with Paul Pogba due to report late after his World Cup triumph.
