Manchester United have reportedly made a surprise enquiry to sign Spanish midfielder Alvaro Garcia. The 24-year-old currently plays his trade with Cadiz in Spain’s second tier.
According to Spanish outlet Grada 3, United have expressed an interest in pursuing the midfielder, who is capable of playing across the attack. Jose Mourinho is believed to have been impressed by Garcia’s technical ability and versatility, and a move could happen in the next 12 months.
The former Granada midfielder is also on the radar of several other Premier League clubs, and he is said to have a minimum release clause of £7.2m. However, his valuation could nearly double to £13.4m, should Cadiz manage to clinch promotion to the Spanish La Liga next season.
The Red Devils are already packed with creative talent in the attacking department, and it would come as a surprise if Mourinho pursues a player featuring in a lower division in Spain. Garcia has managed two goals in just four outings for Cadiz this term.
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime where take on rivals Liverpool from Anfield. Mourinho’s men secured draws in both outings last season, and the gaffer will be expecting a better result to maintain the pressure on leaders Manchester City.
