Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the progress of Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with a view to a summer approach for his signature. The Serbia international has been one of Serie A’s best-performing midfielders, contributing seven goals and two assists in 23 appearances.
According to the Daily Record, United are keeping track of the development of Milinkovic-Savic, who could be available in the transfer market in the summer. The former Genk man is presently contracted to Lazio until June 2020, but it is suggested that the Capital outfit could be tempted to accept a fee of around £80m for his proposed sale.
With the departure of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini in the summer, Mourinho has publicly stated that he will bolster the midfield in the summer, and Milinkovic-Savic could be the perfect fit – due to his ability to comfortably slot into a defensive midfield role, which does not quite suit Paul Pogba.
Pogba has often left Nemanja Matic alone to perform the tough-tackling duties in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and Sergej-Milinkovic may be seen as a better option with his defensive awareness, vision and passing abilities being among his key strengths.
This, however, does not reduce the importance of Pogba in the United ranks, and Mourinho may opt for a 4-3-3 setup more regularly, with Sergej-Milinkovic capable of complementing Matic with his hold-up play and interception skills.
I have watched this lad play and he does seems an ideal replacement when carrick retires it could easily solve a problem wih SAVIC playin along side MATIC
