Manchester United are understood to have expressed their interest in signing Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele during the current transfer window, a report from The Manchester Evening News has claimed.
United officially unveiled Fred in the club’s shirt earlier on Thursday and manager Jose Mourinho is now said to be eyeing a young midfielder, who can provide back-up to the starting XI.
As such, Ndombele has been highlighted as one of the leading targets for the club despite Lyon recently agreeing on a permanent deal for the midfielder with Amiens.
According to M.E.N, Mourinho has identified as a good fit for the club’s requirements and they could prise him away from Les Gones for a fee of around €50m(£43m) during this summer’s transfer window.
Nevertheless, United may not witness the 21-year-old’s arrival without potential exits and Ander Herrera is being tipped to return to Athletic Bilbao, should the deal go through.
Herrera mostly played second fiddle role under Mourinho during the previous campaign and the Spaniard is reluctant to stay put at Old Trafford, should there be any further midfield additions at the club.
The 28-year-old’s current deal with United expires in the summer of 2019 and talks over an extension are yet to proceed. Meanwhile, Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini is expected to leave the club when his contract expires on June 30.
