Inter Milan are expected to spend big in the summer transfer window when they appoint a permanent manager – potentially Antonio Conte – due to the arrival of Chinese investors with plenty of cash to spend. Yet, there may also be departures from the San Siro with Ivan Perisic expected to be one of the top names on the list. Manchester United are reportedly (La Gazzetta dello Sport h/t Metro) exploring the possibility of signing the 28-year-old midfielder, but one of the stumbling blocks could be the transfer demands of Inter Milan.
Surprisingly, the Italian outfit are very keen on selling the 28-year-old that their sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has been making trips to Paris, London, and Manchester in order to find interested parties. Perisic is one of the valuable assets at Inter Milan, and his performances have attracted the attention across European football. He has managed to score 10 goals and create 5 for his teammates in 34 league appearances. Paris St Germain are also thought to be considering a bid for the player.
Inter Milan are keen on a transfer fee of around €55 million in order to let the player go. It remains to be seen if United will spend such an extravagant sum of money on a 28-year-old, but Jose Mourinho prefers to go for experienced campaigners who are yet to hit their 30s.
United have been linked with plenty of midfielders and players capable of strengthening the forward line-up. Perisic is predominantly a winger, but he can also play in the middle as an attacking midfielder. His transfer value has shot up since his move from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015. Back then, Inter only paid around €20 million for his signature.
Jose Mourinho was seen having negotiations with agent Predrag Mijatovic back in March. It is now believed that the talks were held in order to look at the possibility of signing Perisic. Old Trafford and Manchester may not be the only destination for the 28-year-old, whose former agent has claimed that Perisic has a much more attractive offer than joining Manchester United. Even though United will be able to offer him more in wages, Perisic is thought to be concerned about his ability to win trophies at United.
