Manchester United are reportedly prepared to match Chelsea’s £62m asking price for Willian with Jose Mourinho keen on securing a reunion with the Brazil international.
United have had a relatively quiet month of July where goalkeeper Lee Grant has been the sole arrival but there could be activity in the coming weeks with Mourinho eyeing at least two signings.
According to Mundo Deportivo, United are now favourites to acquire the signature of Willian this summer after Barcelona decided to pursue the services of Malcom from Bordeaux instead.
Earlier this month, Willian had been the subject of multiple offers from Barcelona but neither of those came close to the Blues’ £62m valuation for the Brazilian winger.
As such, United are now deemed the frontrunners with Mourinho prepared to match the asking price but it will be interesting to see whether the Blues would sanction the deal.
United have already benefited from Chelsea with Nemanja Matic making a strong impression last term and the Blues may be tempted to ignore the advances from their league rivals.
Other than that, Mourinho has previously indicated that he may not pursue any forward signings during the summer and a move for Willian may witness the departure of one of their existing players.
Anthony Martial is presently one of the leading candidates who has been touted for an Old Trafford exit but United remain reluctant to do business with a direct league competitor.
