After Blind — 28-year-old outcast nears Juventus move, agent says deal is ‘progressing’

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian nears a move to Juventus, with his agent Tullio Tinti insisting the deal is ‘progressing very well’. According to The Sun, the 28-year-old outcast is expected to depart Old Trafford this summer after falling out of favour under manager Jose Mourinho last season and could be moving permanently to the Old Lady in a £17m deal.

Juventus lost Stephan Lichtsteiner to Arsenal and have been in the market for a replacement. Darmian is available after losing his starting place at United and is keen on making the switch. With Juve signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, the Serie A champions have big expectations in all fronts. They’ve certainly gone further in the Champions League than United in recent years too.

Darmian joined the Red Devils from Torino in 2015 and has gone on to make 85 appearances in all competitions. The Italian international, who has made 36 appearances for his country, was a regular under former boss Louis van Gaal, but he lost his place when Mourinho was appointed manager in 2016. Last season, Darmian made just five Premier League starts, and with Diogo Dalot being signed from FC Porto this summer, it’s clear he’s unwanted in Manchester.
