According to the Times, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has rejected a move to Everton and plans to fight for his place in Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of the new season. The 23-year-old has become an outcast under Mourinho due to his form and fitness suffering in recent years, but he’s not giving up on his dream of becoming a regular at Old Trafford.
Signed from Southampton in 2014, the English international has gone on to make 66 appearances in all competitions, winning the Europa League and League Cup for his troubles. Shaw lost his place to Ashley Young at left-back last season and looked on his way out this summer after a fallout with Mourinho, but it’s clear he’s not ready to leave.
The United manager has been linked with Juventus’ Alex Sandro but hasn’t made any progress in bringing the Brazilian to Old Trafford. As a result, Shaw plans to battle with Young for a starting place unless he’s phased out completely. Everton are seeking a long-term replacement for the ageing Leighton Baines and have targeted Shaw as the ideal option. However, it appears the Toffees’ attempts to sign the defender will fail this summer.
