Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon as a potential candidate to bolster their left-back position in January. The England youth international has turned heads in the Championship with a number of standout performances, including a hat-trick in the 5-4 triumph over Sheffield United last month.
According to The Guardian, Mourinho is keen on adding the 17-year-old into the club’s ranks, and the club are prepared to make an initial £25m offer, which falls £5m short of the Cottagers’ valuation.
League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest, but the north London club are said to have an alternative option in United’s Luke Shaw, who could be hampered by the arrival of a new left-back signing.
Shaw has recently got a run of games across all competitions, but his future still remains under uncertainty with his present United contract due to expire at the end of the season.
United do have the option of activate a 12-month extension clause present in the Englishman’s contract, but the ongoing interest in Sessegnon is likely to hamper Shaw’s chances of forging a career at Old Trafford.
Should United get a deal done, Sessegnon would most probably act as a back-up to Ashley Young on the left side of the defence, although the teenager has showcased his potential, playing further up the field in the Championship.
