Man Utd handed boost as agent confirms 29-year-old wants to leave Atleti in January: report

Manchester United have been put on high alert after Nicolas Gaitan’s agent reveals that the attacker will be leaving Atletico Madrid in January.

Nicolas Gaitan has consistently been linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few years but the attacker decided to join La Liga side Atletico Madrid at the start of last season and the decision certainly came as a surprise to many.

The move to Atletico has not proven to be a productive one for Gaitan though and the Argentine international has been limited to only 215 minutes of action in the La Liga so far.

Due to the lack of minutes on the pitch, Gaitan is keen on making a move away from the Spanish side during the upcoming January transfer window and the player’s agent Jose Iribarren has gone on to admit that his client could finally be making a move to England this winter.

Iribarren told Foot Mercato, “I can tell you English clubs are interested. Yes, he’ll undoubtedly leave Atletico in January. He has a lot of concrete offers. Nicolas was an important player when he played in Argentina, at Benfica, and with the national team.

“He can’t continue in these conditions. If he can’t play a string of matches, nor win the coach’s trust… A player wants to play. We’re going to see with Atletico which solution we can find.’

“We hope to find a club where the player will be happy and will play regularly, Nicolas isn’t a player who’s happy to play 15 minutes per match. He wants to play every game.”

It is unclear as to whether United still remain interested in acquiring the services of Gaitan but signing him on a short term basis till the end of the season could prove to be a good addition to the ranks at Old Trafford.
