Manchester United receive transfer boost in pursuit of Real Madrid star

Marco Asensio

Manchester United have been offered a transfer boost for next summer with Marco Asensio likely to assess his options. The Spain international is currently in the ranks of Real Madrid, where he has established himself as a first-team regular.

According to Diario Gol, the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City had made respective bids to pursue the forward last summer, but the Spaniard knocked back their advances to remain at the Bernabeu.

The 21-year-old is, however, expected to discuss his future at the end of the season as he wants assurances of a starting role in the big La Liga and Champions League games, where he often finds himself on the substitutes’ bench.

Should this not be the case, the former Mallorca graduate is prepared to quit the Spanish capital next summer with interest from United, City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Asensio has already shown glimpses of his great potential after he single-handedly earned Real Madrid a point in the 2-2 draw versus Valencia in late August.

The youngster generally features on the left side of the attack, but he is equally efficient in the attacking midfield or right-wing role, and he would be an instant hit at Old Trafford.

Still, there are plenty of permutations before the end of the campaign, and Mourinho would most likely have to pay a significant sum in order to pursue the highly-rated forward from the European champions.
