Man United 28-year-old is a wanted man, with several clubs interested in signing him — agent reveals

The representative of Matteo Darmian has confirmed that the Italian would be staying put at Old Trafford for the winter transfer window. The versatile full-back has had sparse playing time with United this campaign, and he was recently ignored for Victor Lindelof for the right-back role versus Everton.

Darmian has been strongly linked with a return to Italy with the likes of Napoli and AS Roma credited with an interest in his services, but according to his agent Tullio Tinti, the former Torino man is unlikely to leave United this month. He also confirmed that a number of Serie A sides have approached for the full-back, but the Giallorossi are not among them.

“I haven’t had any calls from Roma for the player. There has been contact with other Serie A teams, but not with the Giallorossi. For the moment the lad isn’t for sale,” he is quoted as saying by The Manchester Evening News.

Darmian was an unused substitute during the 2-0 win over Everton on New Year’s Day, but he could potentially start at right side on Friday night where United take on Derby County in the FA Cup third round.

Nevertheless, the Italian’s future looks bleak beyond the summer with the likes of Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe likely to compete for the right-back spot in the seasons ahead.

Darmian has mostly featured on the left side of the defence under Jose Mourinho, but his chances are limited even then with Ashley Young, Luke Shaw and at times Daley Blind preferred ahead of him in the pecking order.
