Manchester United reportedly close to agreeing £10million deal for 27-year-old

According to reports from the Daily Star, Manchester United are on the verge of sanctioning the sale of Chris Smalling to West Bromwich Albion.

Chris Smalling has been a decent servant for Manchester United ever since making a move to Old Trafford from Fulham in 2010 and the defender has helped the Red Devils to two Premier League titles since his arrival.

However, it has to be said that Smalling has not quite managed to fulfill his true potential at United and having struggled to impress Jose Mourinho last season, it looks like the England international will be departing Old Trafford this summer – especially with United having spent heavily to sign Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in recent times.

A number of Premier League sides are understandably interested in acquiring the services of Smalling this summer and West Bromwich Albion have strongly been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis is believed to be a keen admirer of Smalling’s abilities and the Midlands club are expected to place a bid of around £10million for the towering defender once they return from the Hong Kong leg of their pre-season tour of Asia.

The bid will most likely be accepted by United due to the fact that Mourinho currently has a plethora of options to choose from at the back.
