According to reports carried out by the Daily Express, claims have been made that Manchester United are currently in pole position to secure the signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.
Barcelona splashed in excess of £40million to acquire the services of Andre Gomes from Valencia last summer and many believed that the 23-year-old would be a good signing for the Catalan giants, potentially serving as a successor to the legendary Xavi Hernandez.
However, Gomes failed to make much of an impact during his debut campaign at the Nou Camp and there have now been reports that Barcelona could look to cut their losses by selling the midfielder this summer, especially as the La Liga giants have been pursuing PSG’s Marco Verratti very strongly.
Despite his struggles in Barcelona though, Gomes undoubtedly remains a top quality player and a host of clubs are said to be interested in signing the Portuguese international if he becomes available this summer.
Now in surprise reports carried out by the Daily Express, claims are being made that Manchester United are interested in signing Gomes and are currently odds-on favourites to recruit the ex-Benfica star ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Valencia.
United recently splashed £40million to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and it remains to be seen as to whether manager Jose Mourinho will spend big on another central midfielder this summer.
