Red Devil in the making: Manchester United has a chance ‘to sign’ South American Wonderkid

According to reports from the Metro, Manchester United have handed young Gabriel Martinelli a trial ahead of a prospective contractual offer.

Manchester United have been one of the most freely spending teams in the transfer market ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from the club back in 2013 and the arrival of many high profile stars to the club have meant that youngsters at Old Trafford are struggling to break into the first team.

However, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard establishing themselves in the United starting lineup gives much needed hope to up-and-coming talent and as a mark that the Red Devils have not completely abandoned their traditional of giving youngsters a chance, it has been reported that the fallen English giants have snapped up 16-year-old Brazilian sensation Gabriel Martinelli.

Martinelli is a very talented attacker who is currently on the books of Brazilian side Ituano and United have been carefully monitoring the teenage star in recent times. Martinelli is already said to have trained with United previously and the youngster has returned to the club once again on a trial basis.

He travelled with United’s Under-17 squad to take on Lincoln in a friendly at Sincil Bank on Wednesday night and featured in the 2-0 victory, after coming on in the second-half for Nishan Burkart.

It remains to be seen as to whether Martinelli will be able to earn a youth contract with United but he will surely be looking to use this opportunity to convince the club staff that he is worthy of a deal.
