Manchester United Reportedly Monitoring £22Million-Rated Midfielder

Lorenzo Pellegrini

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the progress of AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, who has made a fine start to his Serie A season. The Italy international has contributed three assists for the Giallorossi since his return from Sassuolo in the summer.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, United are keeping a close watch on the performance of Pellegrini, who is also on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. The report adds that the 21-year-old has a release clause of just £22m which is well within the reach of his current admirers.

The central midfield has been a problem position for United since September with the likes of Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini spending time on the sidelines. The trio are set to return following the international break, but Mourinho still appears keen on a new recruit.

One of Pellegrini’s key strengths has been his ability to link up with his forwards through his precise passing, and he could be seen as a potential replacement for one of Carrick, Herrera or Fellaini – all of whom are in the final year of their contracts.

Out of the trio, Fellaini has been the most influential player under Jose Mourinho, but the Belgian is still playing hardball over a fresh deal beyond next summer.
