Manchester United could sell popular player for £40million to sign superstar

According to respected journalist James Robson, Manchester United could look to sell Juan Mata in order to make space for Mesut Ozil in the squad.

Ozil is currently in the final year of his contract at Arsenal and there have been widespread speculation that the German international could now well depart the Emirates Stadium in January or indeed during the summer – especially having recently lost his place in the Gunners’ starting lineup.

A host of clubs have been linked with a move for Ozil over the past few months and recently, claims have been made that Manchester United could make a surprise swoop for the 28-year-old as manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan.

That being said, United will probably have to sell one of their attacking players in order to accommodate Ozil into the squad and respected journalist James Robson is of the opinion that Mourinho could let Juan Mata leave Old Trafford for an offer in excess of £40million if the Arsenal star arrives at the club.

He said, “I can’t believe Mourinho actually ever got on with him at Real Madrid, but he was highly thought of. He’s also been very good, but as seasons have gone by, it’s become a thing he’s gone missing.

“For the majority of his time, he’s been one of the few genuinely world-class players around the Premier League. If he’s free that changes everything. Maybe you could sell Juan Mata. I don’t see how you could have Mata, Mkhitaryan and Ozil in the same team.

“He’s sold Mata once before so maybe if he got Ozil, he’d sell him again. If he signed Ozil, someone would have to go. Mkhitarayan is in Mourinho’s mind.  I’m looking at where the gap and if you sell Mata for around £40m, he would make him £40m.”
