Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho appears to have set his sights on signing Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker. The 22-year-old featured in both legs of Anderlecht’s Europa League quarter-final clash against United last season, while finding the scoresheet.
The Red Devils have recruited the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof to bolster their offensive and defensive departments respectively, and Mourinho is now eager to recruit a central midfielder, who could control the play.
According to Belgian outlet De Morgen, United scouts will keep a close watch on the enforcer during Anderlecht’s league opener against Antwerp tomorrow night. Dendoncker has not been as prolific as Youri Tielemans, who left for AS Monaco earlier this summer, but he still managed a decent tally of six goals in all competitions last term.
United are not the sole club to express an interest in the youngster with Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig and big-spending AC Milan also due to watch the player in action in the curtain raiser. Nevertheless, the player will not come on the cheap with De Morgen claiming that interested parties would have to match his £34m price tag in order to hold further talks.
Dendoncker has earned just two international caps for Belgian since his debut in 2015, but he was recently called by Roberto Martinez for the games against the Czech Republic and Estonia in June.
