Man United reportedly agreed a £35 million for the transfer of Monaco’s midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, despite Chelsea’s interest, who were working on a deal in last few weeks.
Although Bakayoko is Antonio Conte’s top summer transfer target, Jose Mourinho could hijack the deal once again, after he already brought Romelu Lukaku ahead of Chelsea. That could be devastating for Conte and the Blues, but the “Special One” obviously doesn’t care much about his former team and he wants to see the enforcer at Old Trafford.
It looks like United agreed the transfer with the French champions and the 22-year-old defensive midfielder could become their third summer signing, after Lindelof and Lukaku. Bakayoko reportedly was set to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge in the next few days, but now it appears that the Red Devils have their £35 million bid accepted by Monaco.
Tiemoue Bakayoko played a big part in Monaco’s title-winning campaign last year, scoring three goals in 47 appearances. He is a defensive midfielder who usually disrupts the opponent’s attacks and is excellent when it comes to ball interception and aerial duels. Bakayoko also likes to dribble his way out of the danger and is great at tackling as well, so he could be a fantastic addition in the middle of the park, where he should take place alongside his compatriot Paul Pogba.
Bakayoko started his career at Rennes in 2013, but he moved to Monaco in 2014 and played three seasons there. He played for all younger selections of the French national team and made his debut for the senior squad in a friendly match against Spain in March this year.
Mourinho may not get Nemanja Matic or Fabinho, but Bakayoko could be an excellent signing, nonetheless.
