Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
United boss Jose Mourinho has shown a keen interest in bolstering the central defence this month but he is also said to hold an interest in bolstering the attack front.
As a result, the likes of Ante Rebic, Ivan Perisic and Gareth Bale have been linked over the past month but none have come to joining the club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, United are now said to be weighing up a surprise approach for Dembele, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal during the ongoing transfer window.
It is added that the Frenchman won’t come on the cheap with the Blaugrana said to demand at least £89m to push through his permanent exit from the Camp Nou.
Mourinho has largely been left frustrated with the club’s business this summer and a move for Dembele appears unlikely, considering the restricted spending showcased through the transfer window.
Nevertheless, Ed Woodward could sanction a few big-money moves to keep Mourinho content ahead of the new season and Dembele would unquestionably be a major coup, given he could cease the club’s concerns on the right-wing.
