Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has left out five first-team players ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley. According to The Manchester Evening News, the likes of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Daley Blind have been sidelined through injuries with the latter picking up a minor knock in training.
Aside from this, Mourinho has opted to leave out Henrikh Mkhitaryan from his matchday squad once more with the speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford. The Armenia international has reportedly been offered as part of an exchange deal for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, though the deal is still hinging on the 28-year-old finalising contractual terms.
Matteo Darmian is the other player who has been left out of the provisional squad, and the Italian’s exclusion may be tactical, considering the likes of Victor Lindelof and Ashley Young could feature in the right and left-back positions if required.
Young had missed the last three fixtures through suspension, but he is certain to return to the matchday squad at the least, alongside Sergio Romero, who has returned to the squad after missing United’s training camp in Dubai as well as Monday night’s showdown versus Stoke City due to reasons which remain unmentioned.
