Manchester United defeat to Bristol City not a ‘tragedy’ — Man Utd star tells fans

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata has refused to label the Red Devils’ embarrassing 2-1 defeat against Bristol City a ‘tragedy’.

Manchester United crashed out of the EFL Cup following a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Championship outfit Bristol City on Wednesday evening and the result can only be described as an embarrassment for the Red Devils.

Despite fielding a strong side, United were outfoxed by a very organized Bristol City side and the fans of the Premier League giants have been left extremely disappointed by losing out to a second tier English side.

United attacker Juan Mata has now gone on to speak regarding the defeat against Bristol and has stated that while the shock result is a massive blow, he urged the club to move on from the disappointment rather than treat it as a tragedy.

Mata told Sky Sports, “When you play for a club like Manchester United every defeat is a massive blow for everyone.

“For the fans, for you but especially for us. We suffer when we don’t win because there’s such a high standard in this football club to try and win every game.

“But we need to understand that defeat is part of sport and part of football and it can happen so it’s not a tragedy. It’s not good at all, but we need to move on and accept it as a part of football and keep moving.

“Obviously we would like to win every single game and we would like to try to do so until the end of the season.”
