In an interview with ESPN FC, Manchester United attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that his struggles earlier on last season have actually helped him improve.
Manchester United splashed £27million to acquire the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund last summer and understandably a lot was expected from the Armenian international, especially considering his exploits in Germany over the years.
However, Mkhitaryan initially struggled to adapt to life in England and having failed to impress on his first Premier League start in the Manchester derby, there was even talks of him moving back to Dortmund.
Such absurd claims did not come into fruition and Mkhitaryan eventually found his feet for United, playing a key role in the club’s victory in the EFL Cup as well as the Europa League.
It is now fair to state that the 28-year-old is one of United’s key players and the attacker has explained that struggling during his early days at Old Trafford actually proved to be a blessing in disguise for him at the end.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Mkhitaryan said, “Last year with my difficulties they helped me a lot. I could stay more strong in my mind, like mentally.
“It shows that you are strong enough to win them over or not. I think I have done everything to work hard, to show everyone I can play and that I can do my best for the team.”
