Man United Star says he will improve even more despite his advancing years

Manchester United right-back Antonio Valencia has revealed that he will become even better this season.

While Manchester United have endured a number of difficult seasons over the past few years, Antonio Valencia has consistently delivered solid performances in the full-back position for the Red Devils and he very much remains one of the first names of the team sheet for manager Jose Mourinho this season.

At 32 though, many feel that United need to start looking for a replacement for Valencia sooner rather than later and a host of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford during the current summer transfer window.

However, Valencia is not thinking about passing on his position in the team to someone else anytime soon and the Ecuadorian international has stated that despite his advancing years, he is still looking to improve further during this term.

Valencia said, “There is always something to improve on and, this season, I will try to be better with my left foot. I will shoot more, try to do more with it and I hope, this year, I can achieve this. Overall, I just wish to be better and, God willing, things will go the right way for me and for the team.”

The ex-Wigan star also expressed his excitement at playing in the Champions League once again and talked about his intent to do well in the competition for Manchester United.

He continued, “There is an excitement about being back in the competition (the Champions League). I miss the Champions League song and the timing of the game, plus the whole environment and what it is like to play a Champions League match. We are back and we are hoping to do a good job.

“We hope we can win it. That is the objective. When you play in an important competition like that, you just want to win. Right now, we are taking it step by step, phase by phase. Hopefully we can achieve that.”
