Manchester United need a world class central defender in the summer transfer window to strengthen things up at the back.
According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils wanted to sign Raphael Varane when he used to play for Lens but the player opted to move to Real Madrid.
As per the French outlet, the Les Bleus star could leave the Los Blancos this summer and United, who have never given up on luring him, are keeping a careful eye to finally hire his services in the summer.
L’Equipe have further stated that Van Dijk moved to Liverpool for 84 million euros, therefore, it is impossible that Varane would leave Real Madrid for a fee less than 100 million euros and he could cost around 140 million euros (£120million).

According to renowned Spanish outlet Marca, the former Ligue 1 defender has got a huge clause of 200 million euros in his contract, which will expire in 2022.
The 25-year-old star is one of the best center halves in the world. He is at the peak of his game and already, he has won four Champions League titles with Real Madrid and the World Cup with France.
It will be intriguing to see if Zidane can change Varane’s mind and convince him to stay at the club. He has been immense under the management of the legendary French superstar.
As far as United are concerned, a leader like Varane would transform our back-line just like Van Dijk has largely improved Liverpool defense.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months.
