Manchester United told to pay £70m for this Napoli star

Manchester United will have to pay up a fee of more than £70m if they are to lure Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli this summer. The 26-year-old is currently with the Senegalese national side at the summer World Cup.

United boss Jose Mourinho has shown an interest in bolstering the central defence during the ongoing transfer window and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Toby Alderweireld has been highlighted as the main target in recent weeks.

However, Koulibaly appears to have also caught the club’s radar after a strong campaign with Napoli, who finished with their highest ever points tally in the Serie A.

According to Italian outlet TMW h/t M.E.N, United may have to spend most of their remaining budget on the defender with Napoli said to demand north of £70m for the former Genk man.

United have already spent around £70m to pursue the signings of Fred and Diego Dalot to bolster the midfield and right-back positions respectively and spending a similar sum on Koulibaly could be avoided with the position not lacking depth.

Instead, the emphasis could be placed more on finding a replacement for Ashley Young, who has entered the twilight of his professional career. With not much confidence in Luke Shaw, Young has cemented the left-back spot for himself and this could become a genuine concern heading into next season.
