Manchester United ‘very close’ to agreeing new deal with England international

Manchester United are reportedly edging closer to extending the contract of left-back Luke Shaw. The England international has been a regular since the current season started and he has featured in seven of the club’s eight league games.

According to Sky Sports News, the United hierarchy are in advanced discussions with the left-sided defender regarding a new contract and they are confident of prolong his stay beyond the conclusion of the current campaign.

Shaw was largely a back-up to Ashley Young at left-back during the previous season and this eventually saw him fall out of contention for national team duty with the latter playing a key role at the summer World Cup.

Thereafter, Shaw was linked with a potential exit from Old Trafford but he has managed to turn his fortunes around after going through a fitness regime in Dubai which has done wonders to his progress this term.

So far, the Englishman has impressed for club and country with one goal and two assists this season but he has been forced to miss the Three Lions’ recent internationals after sustaining a minor thigh problem.

Meanwhile, United are said to have a different view on the futures of experienced duo Young and Antonio Valencia and a future contract for either may depend on their consistency through the ongoing season.
