Manchester United are reportedly planning a potential successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. The Swede made just a solitary start for the Red Devils this term, before he suffered a recurrence of his long-term knee injury.
According to Yahoo! Sport, United have succession plan in place for Ibrahimovic, who is likely to be offered a route to either Major League Soccer or the Chinese Super League in the summer.
The former Paris Saint-Germain ace was initially expected to contribute towards United’s hunt for silverware during the second half of the campaign, and things have not worked out with the Swede pretty much average with his showing owing to his evident lack of match fitness.
As per the report, Belotti has been identified as the ideal replacement for the veteran striker with United’s scouting team having kept a close watch on his progress. However, the club will stay have to pay a hefty sum for the Italian with Torino standing firm on his €100m(£88m) release clause.
Belotti has not managed to replicate his form from the previous campaign (28 goals), and he has netted just seven times during the first-half of the season. He is currently sidelined with a knee sprain, but is expected to return to first-team action before the end of the month.
