According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are turning their attentions to Barcelona defender Yerry Mina after giving up on signing Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
Manager Jose Mourinho have been in the market for a stellar centre-back to bolster his backline ahead of the new season, having been linked with Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, but Mina could be the player on his way to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old joined Barca from Brazilian outfit Palmeiras in January 2018 and has gone on to make only six appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions. Mina is likely to be on the move this summer as a result of his lack of playing time at the Camp Nou and the Mirror say United will have to pay around £30m to procure his signature.
The Colombian international, who has made 15 appearances for his country and impressed at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, would have a lot of competition for a starting place at United from Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, but clearly Mourinho doesn’t trust his options. Time will tell if the Red Devils make an official bid.
