According to Di Marzio, Manchester United will agree a £17.6m deal for Matteo Darmian this summer, but Inter Milan aren’t meeting their valuation for the 28-year-old. Darmian looks set to depart Old Trafford after falling down the pecking under Jose Mourinho last season and being out of contract in 12 months, but United are struggling to find a suitor.
Inter have reportedly been in talks with the defender’s agent and are considering a loan deal for the Italian international. Darmian has an option for a further year on his contract so United can avoid losing him for free in 2019 unless a deal is agreed between the player and agent to push through an early departure.
Darmian was back-up to Antonio Valencia at right-back last season, but his place in the side is in doubt after United signed FC Porto’s Diogo Dalot. He only made five Premier League starts in 2017/18, spending the majority of the campaign on the bench or out of the matchday squad entirely.
Signed from Torino in 2015, the 28-year-old has gone on to make 85 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils. He was a regular in the defence in his debut campaign but was slowly phased out in 2016/17 and last season.
