According to reports from the Daily Express, Manchester United are planning to extend the contract of Sam Johnstone in order to avoid losing him for free.
Sam Johnstone is a talented goalkeeper but with the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Romero ahead of him in the pecking order, the 24-year-old has had to look for first team football elsewhere and he is currently doing well during his loan spell at Aston Villa.
With Johnstone set to be out of contract at United when the current campaign concludes, Aston Villa are looking at the possibility of signing the goalkeeper on a permanent basis and they are hoping to acquire his services on a free.
However, United are not willing to let that happen and according to reports from the Daily Express, it has been claimed that the Premier League giants will be looking to exercise an option to automatically extend his deal for a further season.
United will be open to selling Johnstone and it is believed that the Red Devils want around £5million from Aston Villa for the youngster rather than allowing him to leave for nothing at the end of the campaign.
