According to German publication Kicker, Bayern Munich could let one of their two Manchester United-linked midfielders leave in the summer, to make way for Schalke’s Leon Goretzka.
Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara are the two players up for sale, with the report stating only one of the two players will be allowed to go. Vidal turns 31 in the summer and only has 18 months left on his contract, but Thiago continues to suffer with injury problems and can’t stay fit over a full season.
Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder, with Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season, Marouane Fellaini potentially leaving for free at the end of his contract in the summer and Ander Herrera’s long-term future being unknown due to his poor form.
Vidal is reportedly worth around £16m, but it’s hard to see Bayern letting a good servant leave for cheap, even if they are bringing in a replacement in Goretzka. Thiago would likely set United back £40m, but the 26-year-old has his flaws given his injury woes.
United manager Jose Mourinho will have a lot to contemplate in the summer as he looks to add a commanding midfielder to the squad.
