Manchester United’s £75k-per-week star provides injury update

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has given supporters an update on his recovery from a thigh injury, reports the Metro. The 28-year-old last featured in February’s Champions League last-16 clash against Sevilla, limping off after 17 minutes, and his return still looks a few weeks away.

But the Spanish international has recently taken part in light training, doing some low intensity drills as he continues his recovery, which is good news for fans. The former Athletic Bilbao man has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season but has an uncertain future, amid links to AC Milan.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are getting regular playing time under Jose Mourinho this season, and with United shopping for a Michael Carrick replacement in the summer, Herrera could find himself falling down the pecking order even further.

The £75k-per-week star joined from Bilbao in 2014 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances in all competition for the Red Devils. His contract is up in less than 18 months, with no progress being made on an extension, which suggests the club could be considering moving him on.

Given Herrera has only made eight Premier League starts this season, it’s clear he’s no longer priority. Scott McTominay has shone in his absence and looks to have a bright future in midfield.
