BBC Sport football expert Mark Lawrenson has backed Manchester United to maintain their 100 percent record at Old Trafford when they host Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Jose Mourinho’s men have had a string of average results since October and this has dropped them eight points behind Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
While giving his weekly predictions for gameweek 12, Lawro backed United to come up triumphs at home against the Magpies, who have tended to struggle in front of goal on their travels.
He told BBC Sport: “I can see Benitez reverting to playing with one up front when he goes to Old Trafford, and again it is hard to see the Magpies scoring.
“At the other end, Newcastle will be well organised but it will just be a question of whether Manchester United can break them down. Benitez’s side will make it difficult for them but there is only one outcome.”
United are yet to concede a league goal at Old Trafford this campaign, and Lawro has backed Mourinho’s side to seal a 2-0 victory over the Magpies while securing their ninth clean sheet of the campaign.
Despite losing to both Huddersfield Town and Chelsea prior to the international break, United still hold the best defensive record in the division with just five goals conceded in 11 matches.
Phil Jones has been the ever-present figure in the strong defensive display at the back, and Mourinho will hope that the Englishman recovers from a thigh injury in order to make the matchday squad.
