BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction for Saturday’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town last weekend and this has widened the gap to five points to league leaders Manchester City.
Spurs have gone scoreless and winless in their last three trips to Old Trafford, but Lawrenson predicts that this will change, although he does not expect United to lose the game.
He said: “United flunked at Huddersfield and, as bad as Liverpool were at Wembley, Tottenham played very well to beat them 4-1. But I don’t see United losing again. They rolled over in the first half against the Terriers but there is no way Jose Mourinho is going to let Spurs beat his side at Old Trafford.”
Lawro has predicted a 1-1 draw for the lunch-time kick-off, and this would probably be the minimum Jose Mourinho would take following a lacklustre performance at the John Smith’s Stadium last weekend.
The gaffer went for a relatively defensive approach in the 0-0 draw versus Liverpool earlier this month, but there will certainly be a change in tactics against Spurs – with United expected to have the first-choice pairing of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in central defence.
