Manchester United will face off against Southampton at St.Mary’s on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils have cruised through the opening month of the season with four victories and a draw and this sees them joint top of the table with Manchester City on 13 points. Jose Mourinho has not made unnecessary changes to his side this term, but we have looked at an alternate lineup which the gaffer could deploy against the south Coast side this weekend.
Lineup:
David de Gea starts in goal as usual. The backline will see familiar faces with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young operating in the full-backs with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones starting in central defence for the sixth game on the trot.
Moving onto the midfield, Mourinho may look to add more creativity with the passing, and Ander Herrera could be a preferable pick ahead of Marouane Fellaini, who is more useful with a direct style of play. Nemanja Matic will accompany the Spaniard at the centre of the park.
Further forward, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will start in his support role just behind the main striker with Marcus Rashford on the left following his impressive performance in the midweek League Cup win over Burton. Given the Saints’ emphasis on defence, Anthony Martial could be an exciting pick on the right as his pace could help United launch counter-attacks.
Romelu Lukaku is an undisputed choice for the centre-forward role having amassed seven goals across all competitions for Manchester United this season.
