£50m star hell-bent on securing Man Utd move but Reds are poor negotiators

Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

Ajax are really playing hardball with Manchester United over the transfer of star defender, Lisandro Martinez.

Two days ago, De Telegraaf reported that Man United have gone the extra mile and made an offer of £43million for the Argentine international. The bid was supposedly hard to turn down. Turns out it wasn’t that hard.

Transfer: Club convinced Man Utd will offer over £55million fixed fee for signing – Report

As per The Mail on Sunday (press image provided below), the Eredivisie giants have told the Red Devils that they need to raise the bid to sign the South American center half this summer.

The famous British news outlet have mentioned that Martinez is hell-bent on securing a move to Man Utd and he is Erik ten Hag’s priority target to improve the backline.

Ajax continue to ask for a higher fee but it is not clear whether the Old Trafford club will raise their offer. It is stated that Ten Hag will push them to get the deal over the line.

Last month, The Daily Telegraph revealed that it could take a fee of £50million to sign the 24-year-old from the Netherlands side.

The entire transfer saga shows how bad United are at negotiating and completing transfers.

Ten Hag has won every domestic title with Ajax and is a key figure in their history but it seems that the strong connections are of no use to the 20-time English champions.

Moreover, the player is pressing to join as well, still, they are unable to bring the asking price down and are being played, frustrated by the Dutch side.

I think Man Utd should stop wasting time. If Ten Hag is adamant that he wants Martinez at all costs and if Martinez is determined that he wants to play for Ten Hag, then United should just pay the asking price and get the signing done because they are poor negotiators.
