Nemanja Matic has expressed his desire to make Manchester United legend and compatriot Nemanja Vidic proud.
Nemanja Matic has joined Manchester United from Chelsea in a whopping deal worth around £40million and his arrival to Old Trafford has lifted the level of expectation at the club, with many now believing that the Red Devils will be able to mount a genuine bid for the Premier League title.
By the same token though, Matic will have to deal with the weight of the high level of expectations now put up on his shoulders because of his sizeable price tag and also perhaps due to the fact that he may be regularly compared to another Serbian star that made a huge impact at Old Trafford in Nemanja Vidic.
Matic has been speaking about Vidic during his first official interview as a Manchester United player and the 29-year-old has admitted that he will look to make his former international captain proud by doing well at his new club.
“He was a great player, he was one of the players who I look to be similar to because he had a great career,” Matic told the club’s official website.
“When I came first time to the Serbian national team he was one of the captains, one of the leaders, so it is great to be in the same club as him and I will try to repeat what he did at this club.
“I know it is going to be very hard but I will try to do the best because I don’t want him turning to me one day and saying, ‘what are you doing there?!’ so I will try to do my best for him to be happy.”
