McTominay and Shaw start, 4-2-3-1: Experimental Man United lineup vs CSKA Moscow

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to ring in the changes for the Tuesday night’s Champions League game against CSKA Moscow with a view to the Manchester derby this weekend. United are almost through to the last-16 of the elite competition, and the Portuguese tactician could go with a mixture of regular and fringe players for the Old Trafford showdown.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

Sergio Romero has already been confirmed as a starter for the midweek outing, and the Argentine will set his sights on keeping his first clean sheet of the campaign.

Matteo Darmian could replace Antonio Valencia on the right side of the defence, with Luke Shaw earning his first start of the season at left-back – a position which Ashley Young has cemented for the Premier League duties.

Mourinho could potentially tweak his options in the central defence as well, and we are backing Chris Smalling to start alongside Daley Blind, who has slotted into the position for United in previous seasons.

Paul Pogba is a certain candidate to start as he is suspended for the Manchester derby, and the Frenchman could potentially Scott McTominay at the heart of the midfield.

Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic, who is nursing a minor injury, are likely to be kept afresh for the Manchester City clash scheduled on Sunday.

Moving forward, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial could feature on the right and left side of the attack respectively, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan could earn his first start in more than a month in the number 10 position.

Marcus Rashford came at the very end during the 3-1 win over Arsenal, and the Englishman could be tasked with leading the line with Jose Mourinho hinting that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not yet up to full fitness.
