Transfer: Man Utd prepared to finally sign £85.5m midfielder, wait for right time – Report

The Catalan outlet have mentioned that Mendes offered the opportunity to take his client to Barcelona.

However, due to delicate economic situation at the Nou Camp, the La Liga giants have turned down the chance to lure the midfielder from Benfica.

It is stated that the Primeira Liga club want at least a fee of £68million for their prized asset but Barca are not willing to pay such an amount.

Mendes wants to take Neves to a powerful club and after the rejection from the Blaugrana, the position of Man Utd has gained strength.

Defensive midfielders are high in demand. Last summer, Arsenal and Chelsea broke the 100 million barrier to lure the likes of Rice and Caicedo.

The Blues also got Lavia, Liverpool opted to sign Endo and United were able to bring Amrabat on loan but the Moroccan has failed to shine at Old Trafford.

The Atlas Lions star should be sent back to Fiorentina after his loan spell expires at the end of the campaign.

Neves is one of the most sought after play breakers in world football as the 19-year-old has done brilliantly in the No.6 position for Benfica.

In your view, should Man Utd bid £68million to sign Joao Neves in the summer transfer window?
