Super-agent Mino Raiola feels Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return to competitive action with Manchester United at the start of 2018. The former Sweden international notched 28 goals during his maiden campaign with the Red Devils last term.
Ibrahimovic rejoined United on a fresh one-year deal last month after having made a good recovery from his knee injury sustained in last season’s Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht.
Speaking to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Raiola revealed that his client should be up to full fitness by January, and he is hopeful that everything goes as planned, he said: “It’s fine, everything goes on to the best. It’s about a possible return to the field in January, but we know that can not anticipate it. We just have to wait for it, for sure it is very good.”
Meanwhile, there was the talk of Ibrahimovic looking for a return to Italy, but Raiola has clarified that he did not make contact with any other club as their focus was always with United, he added: “No, I’m honest. The line has not changed because we have decided to respect the initial project with Manchester United.”
In the absence of Ibrahimovic, summer signing Romelu Lukaku has hit the heights with six goals in as many appearances, and the Belgian is likely to lead the line regardless of the Swede’s return from injury. Ibrahimovic could be used as a potential alternative from the bench with his experienced likely to be valuable for the second phase of the Champions League – should United progress from their group.
