Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho expressed his delight at the winter signing of Alexis Sanchez, whom he has hailed as one of the ‘best attacking players in the world’.
The Chile international completed his much-awaited switch from Arsenal last week after a swap agreement was sorted out involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way.
Speaking in his press- conference on Thursday, Mourinho talked up the qualities of Sanchez, who was the Gunners’ prime goalgetter prior to his move to Old Trafford.
He continued to praise him as one of the world’s best attackers whilst citing United’s ambition to recruit player’s of similar calibre who could propel the club to greater heights.
“You know, because he’s in England for quite a long time, I think everybody knows the player he is,” he is quoted as saying by The Manchester Evening News. “I think everybody knows what he did at Arsenal, I try not to speak what he did before in Spain and Italy but in the Premier League he has shown the quality he has. We got one of the best attacking players in the world and he’s very important for us because we want the best possible players.”
Sanchez is expected to be involved during Friday night’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Yeovil Town, and it will be interesting to see where he features, given the versatile nature of the Chilean’s style of play.
The 29-year-old has had the preference of playing on the left-wing, but he has shown his adaptability at his former club, where he has been utilised in the centre-forward position, number 10 or at times on the right wing.
Sanchez’s arrival is likely to provide a huge morale boost for the entire squad, and his tireless work rate and the eagerness to get on the ball should bring the best out of the likes of Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku.
