Mourinho has convinced Manchester United outcast he ‘still has a future’

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told left-back Luke Shaw that he still has a future at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old, who joined from Southampton in 2014, has lost his place in the starting lineup under Mourinho and looked set for a summer departure after a public fallout with the Portuguese manager.

However, it now appears Shaw could have a big part to play in the first-team this season. Ashley Young is likely to be first-choice at left-back ahead of the upcoming campaign, but Shaw is working hard to force his way into contention. He’s with the squad for the pre-season tour in the US while Young has been given a late holiday due to his world Cup excursions with England.

It’s a big opportunity for Shaw to impress Mourinho and prove he could be a long-serving left-back. There were high hopes for the England defender when he made the switch from Southampton four years ago, but he’s gone on to make just 66 appearances in all competitions and spent much of last season on the bench or outside of the matchday squad.

After looking destined to join another side this summer, Shaw could now resurrect his United career.
