Chelsea already lost the race for Romelu Lukaku as the player joined United instead of the Blues, and Jose Mourinho is looking to rub more salt into Antonio Conte’s wounds with a potential transfer of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.
Real’s intention to sell is evident, and Chelsea and United are quite interested in bringing the Colombian magician, but it seems that the Red Devils are one step closer from striking a deal. James would like to work with Mourinho, and he prefers Manchester as his next destination, but Real offered the player to numerous clubs including Liverpool, PSG, Inter, and Juventus. However, no official offer arrived yet because the clubs are not prepared to pay £70 million for James, who wasn’t even included in the Champions League finals squad against Juventus.
James wants to find a new team and escape from Santiago Bernabeu, where he was unfairly marginalized, and Real need money to fund Dani Ceballos’ and Kylian Mbappe’s transfers, so it would be surprising if the Colombian stays in Madrid after this transfer window.
The Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will be furious if United hijack another player in front of his nose, as the wounds are still fresh following Lukaku’s decision to join the Red Devils and reject his former club in the process. According to Neil Fissler of the Sunday Express, United is closer to get James: “James has been a United target for the last two years, and it now appears that their patience will finally be rewarded,” Fissler reported.
Wayne Rooney will finalize his move to Everton and Mourinho could use the new No. 10 and James seems to be a perfect fit. The former Monaco midfielder will surely be an upgrade on Rooney, but for now, Manchester is reluctant to meet Florentino Perez’s valuation of Rodriguez.
