Mourinho makes big claim that superstar will return back to Man United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has stated his belief that Wayne Rooney will be making a return back to Old Trafford in the foreseeable future.

Wayne Rooney made a return to Old Trafford for the first time in 13 years as an opposition player during Everton’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday and while the Toffees endured a 4-0 defeat during the encounter, the striker would surely remember the day with some fond memories.

Rooney was provided with a warm reception from the Old Trafford faithful throughout the match and after he was brought off late into the second half, the 31-year-old was handed a wonderful standing ovation by both sets of fans inside the stadium.

Following the game, Mourinho spoke about the reception handed to his former captain and stated with confidence that the club legend will be making a return back to Manchester in the future.

The Portuguese boss said, “I didn’t need to ask. It is the nature of English fans and big clubs when a player is big in the club and has an important part of the club’s history.

“I think every club in England has that. I can only speak about Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, and in both stadiums when you have former players, the reception is normally phenomenal. No surprise at all. He is at home and one day I believe he will be back home.”
