Jose eyes 25-year-old star to solve Man United’s problems at left-back: report

Jose Mourinho

According to Don Balon, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants a deal with Bayern Munich for David Alaba this summer, as he bids to build a physical side capable of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

The 25-year-old joined Bayern from Austria Wien in 2008 and has gone on to make 301 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 65 goals. He’s won seven Bundesliga titles and four DFB-Pokals after rising through the youth ranks to the first-team and finds himself the subject of interest from United.

Ashley Young is currently the first-choice left-back under Mourinho, but the English international turns 33 in July and will be out of contract next year. Luke Shaw has been back-up for Young, but he’s suffered from a lack of playing time this season and will be out of contract in 2019.

Alaba would be a stellar replacement. He’s made 36 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this campaign and is regarded as one of the best left-backs in Europe. The Austrian international won’t be cheap, however, as Don Balon say Bayern have no intention of selling him.

United aren’t short of money, but it’s unknown how much it would cost before a bid would be accepted.
